Museum lectures

A lecture offer at Station: Museum for the school.

Educational project entitled „From an idea – to an invention”.

History of the railway

Theme range: railway history from the very beginning (construction of the first railroad) to modern times (highspeedtrains). Over the period of two centuries, rail infrastructure and rolling-stock was constantly changing. What also changed, was the kind of needs the rail transport provided for, which in turn influenced railway capacity and functioning. Through steady improvements, the railways increased their speed and covered  larger distances, connecting the whole world.

The nineteenth century, called „the century of steam” is known in Poland as a period of occupation by foreign powers. During this period, transport, especially by rail, made a great impact on economic, social and cultural development. The later period and the reclamation of Polish independence meant unification for Polish railways, both in the legal and in the technical sense.

To this day, we  can  admire  the achievements of Polish engineers and compare technical inventions. Coming into direct contact with them will help  to develop interest in the surroundings, and raise respect for science and industry.

The Industrial Revolution

The most defining characteristic of the nineteenth century is the industrial revolution, and one of the most valuable inventions of the time is the railway. It has proved to be a much quicker mode  of transportion than any of the earlier ones, yet that meant new dangers. Over the course of our lecture, you will learn about the steps in development of railway signaling, the circumstances under which air brakes were invented, and you will also see how carriages changed over the years and how various improvements had to be made in order for the railway to become safe and comfortable as it is today.

Travelling in safety

This lecture's purpose is to raise awareness about how one needs to behave in order to stay  safe on the road and while using different means of transport. During this course, we will explain the rules behind the devices used to control the traffic, including road signs and signaling, both of which greatly influence our safety on the road. Also, we will raise the subject of proper behavior in public transport.

Model building

This lecture's purpose is: invigorating enthusiasm, developing of creative thinking  and  action.

Probably the first railroad models were 1:20 or 1:32 railways, based on small trains used by the English aristocracy. The rail gauge of those trains never exceeded one meter. They were used mainly for recreational rides through the gardens, or for hunting, but also for economic purposes, such as transporting of wood . Many people could not afford them due to a simple reason – the  lack of space. We don’t lack space in the Station Museum however and we  would like to invite you to see and appreciate our collection of transport monuments.
