The construction of a new series of locomotives designated as Ty51 was commissioned entirely to the Metal Industry Plants of J. Stalinin in Poznań (under that name  between 1950-1956 was  functioning the H. Cegielski Manufacturing Company). Between 1953-58 232 locomotives were manufactured. From among 24 industrial steam locomotives 21 were handed over to Przedsiębiorstwo Materiałów Podsadzkowych Przemysłu Węglowego (PMP-PW) in Katowice. The Ty51 locomotives were  built on the basis of the latest technological solutions e.g. they all were equipped with a mechanical coal feeders. First deliveries were dedicated to locomotive sheds handling freight truck lines.  Since the beginning of the 80's, mainly in area of the Eastern District State Railways Management, a considerable amount of steam locomotives of this series withdrawn from traffic, was kept in long- term redundancy. The end of exploitation of the last units at the Polish State Railways took place  at the beginning of the 90s. Several locomotives used by the coal industry ended up at the Polish State Railways. Among them a Ty51-228  copy which  on 29 August 1971  began its  service in Kielce and ended it  in Deblin (last month of service-  May 1987). Deleted from the inventory on 05 April 1989.
